About the
Saddle River Valley Rescue Squad...

Founded in 1971, we are an emergency service group consisting of entirely volunteer members, responding to emergencies in the boroughs of Saddle River and Upper Saddle River. Our members give up their personal time to seek out extensive training in emergency operations such as: Heavy Rescue; Emergency Medical Training (EMT); Fire Fighter levels 1, 2, & 3; CPR; Vehicle Extrication; and Hazardous Material Handling, Confined Space, Rapid Water/Ice Rescue, and many other technical rescue classes.

We are the people that have saved the lives of more than 20 people who were in car accidents this year. We are the people that have fought 6 house fires this year. We are the people that have been to more than 200 additional activated fire alarms, just to make sure that you are safe.

We are the people that during Hurricane Floyd, saved 8 people from drowning in the Saddle River, gave food and shelter to more than 15 displaced residents, evacuated countless families, and spent well over 240 additional hours combating Hurricane Floyd.

We are the people that clear your roads of fallen trees, pump out your basement when it floods, and direct traffic when the power goes out. We are the people that respond to any and all emergencies that you may have. We respond to more then 500 per year, regardles of the emergency or the time of day. We will respond.

The valuable income we use to support all these services is derived primarily from donations of the generous residents of the two boroughs. Although the towns do provide a portion of our money, a majority of our funds come directly from you, the residents.

If you are wondering where that money goes, last year alone we have spent more than $300,000 on much needed improvements and repairs.

In February of 2001 we purchased a new 2000 Ford F350 Pickup truck and trailer just over $40,000. This replaced a 1964 Rescue Truck, which was long overdue to be retired.

Then in May of 2001, we paid more than $24,000 to replace the breathing air compressor, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandated bottle fill station that we, and the fire departments, use to provide breathable air for entering a fire or other hazardous location.

And in August of 2001 we took out a loan for almost $200,000 to purchase a primary rescue truck. Our old 1970’s era truck was no longer safe for the kind of demand that was being placed upon it. The new truck is a 1999 Freightliner that is better suited for the rigorous demands of emergency service.

And none of this counts the standard operating expenses that we have to undertake every year. Expenses for things like repairing or replacing protective clothing, maintenance on emergency equipment, restocking consumable equipment like road flares, fire extinguishers, and medical supplies. All of this is done, so that we can continue to protect your life and property.

We are there to help you anytime you need, and now we are hoping you will reach out and help us.

With the help of your donations, we can continue to save lives and protect property. All it takes is a small tax-deductible contribution from you. We ask for any amount that you may wish to give, but a donation of as little as $35 will help keep us prepared for any emergency that you may have. To make a donation click here

As always, the Saddle River Valley Rescue Squad does not engage any outside organizations in conducting it’s fund raising efforts, so you can be sure your donation goes directly where it’s needed most; assisting you, your family, and others in your community.
